Get Rich Mitch

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Billy and Scott.

Subject: Get Rich Mitch

After depositing my paycheck, I stopped in at Scott's Starbucks. I ordered myself an iced-tea lemonade, which Scott upgraded to a Venti for me even though he's not supposed to. I grabbed a seat near the window to watch people walking by, and a little later Scott's friend get rich Mitch showed up. Ann actually nicknamed him get-rich Mitch one day last year, before she found out that that was Sara's father's name, and I don’t remember his real name. As his name implies, Mitch always has some kind of get-rich-quick scheme. Unfortunately, Mitch isn’t the brightest of people. He’s the only person I know of that’s fallen for one of the Nigerian email scams. His scam today was a little more modest. Actually, he only wanted Scott’s help as a lookout because he’s tall. Mitch’s plan was to take a lot of the free daily papers and sell them to tourists for a dollar. They discussed it for a while, and then Scott declined and Mitch promised he’d be back tomorrow to buy him a latte with all the cash he was sure he’d make. I hope he doesn’t end up in jail, or beaten-up by a pissed off tourist from Detroit.

Think it will work?”

I doubt it. Those papers are all over the place. Any tourist that's been here for more than an hour would have to realize that they're free right?”

You're overestimating the intelligence of tourists.”

Maybe. But you can find those papers on the floors at Penn Station, or in almost any bus or subway. They hand them to you in some places! Not to mention there are people all over selling the News and Post for a quarter.”

I guess it doesn't look promising for our hero. I suspect I'm not getting that latte tomorrow.”

I wouldn't bank on it.”

He wasn't related to that bank robber that posed as shrubbery, was he?
