6th Floor Blog Reviews Chocolate

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor Blog Reviews Chocolate and M & Ms

So I love reading those chocolate review blogs we have linked on the blog, and Billy gave me an idea.”

Does it have anything to do with all those M & Ms he brought home yesterday?”

Yup, you got it. I've never tried either of those flavors.”

Wildly Cherry? Are they really that wild?”

Guess we'll have to find out. Were you guys really going to scarf down all these M & Ms without waking me?”

Figured you needed your beauty sleep.”

Beauty sleep? He'd have to sleep for a month.”

Frank punches Scott. “You got these at M & M world I assume Billy? Why are they differently shaped?”

Well, the Mint green ones are crisps. They're promoting the new Indiana Jones movie. What is it about the green ones anyway?”

I guess that's why the green ones have what look like images from the movie on them. Green ones are the sexiest M & M.”

Have you ever seen the Crispy Orange one? He looks...well, Crispy.”

Yeah, he's a little jumpy. Paranoid.”

Damn, he needs to lay off the drugs.”

Hey, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean someone's not out to get you.”

Maybe the purple M & M is gunning for his job or something.”

The purple one probably wants a promotion or something. He or she is the equivalent of an M & M intern.”

Okay, everyone is here so I'm going to taste these things.”

Wow, this cherry is surprisingly good. I like it.”

Yeah, a nice warm cherry feel to it.”

The mint crisps are okay. I think the mint is a little strong.”

I like mint, so I like these, but you may be right. I wonder why they decided to make them crispy anyway.”

Maybe crispy is back in style? I like the cherry ones too. I hope they keep these around.”

It's got a cherry flavor without erasing the chocolate flavor, which is nice. I don't know why some seem thicker than the others, they all seem to be the same solid chocolate inside.”

Beats me, I almost thought they were crispy at first, but they don't seem to be.”

You should've stopped into the Hershey store and gotten those New York Cheesecake Hershey Kisses. I've been wanting to try them.”

Actually, I did! They didn't have them.”

The Times Square Hershey store didn't have New York Cheesecake Kisses? How ironic”

Easter Eggs

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Easter

Wow, I think I ate way too much junk. My stomach is angry at me.”

Mine too. I actually ate half of that huge chocolate bunny my parents sent me.”

You girls are lightweights.” Billy says, buttering himself another piece of Easter bread.

I can't believe we went through a loaf and a half of that stuff...you must have eaten half of one yourself Billy.”

It's good stuff. Ann is a good baker.”

Thanks. Those pastries Frank bought were delicious too.”

Want another? There are plenty left.” Frank says, peeking into the bakery box.

No! I'm full. I'm on chocolate hiatus.”

Chocolate hiatus sounds like a sin.”

It probably is.”

I think I've eaten too many eggs. I think I had five today, that's a lot of cholesterol.”

Maybe if Tabitha hadn't insisted we dye so many...”

You're right, I think four dozen eggs may have been overkill, but it was fun!”

I ran out of ideas though. And then Sara had to make too many blue and orange Mets colors eggs..Speaking of which, are you getting up to watch any of the Red Sox against the As in Japan Sara?”

Probably not. It's on at 6 right? I'll probably wake up and catch the end of one of them, just to see some real baseball.”

Yeah, I may just stay up all night. We'll see. I have to remember to make sure all my Boston and Oakland players are active in my fantasy leagues though.”

Yeah, I should do that too.”

St. Patricks Day

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Okay everybody! I made us six Irish Car Bombs!”

Oh joy, chugging beer. What a pleasure.”

No sarcasm around the Guinness!”

Only envy right? Because we'd be green with envy?”

Frank groans. “Lame Sara.”

We should toast to something.” Billy says, raising his glass.

Irish Whores?”

Leprechauns.”

Can't you chip a tooth doing these things? Don't we have plastic shot glasses?” Tabitha complains, as Scott hands Tabitha her shot and drink.

Here's to Kermit, Green Jello, and all things that wish they were as green as them.”

That works. Bombs away!”

They chug.

Ready, Set, Brawl!

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Sara, Frank, Tabitha, Scott.

Subject: Super Smash Brothers: Brawl!

Sara stumbled out of the apartment Sunday morning to pick up her copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and returned to the apartment to find Scott and Frank semi-awake in the living room.

Sara, you went out this early? What’s wrong with you?”

Smash brothers! It was tough, but I wanted to play video games to fight the hangover.”

Is that a Box of Joe from Dunkin Donuts? Are you going to drink that all by yourself?” Scott looks at Sara longingly.

I bought it expecting to share, but I would drink it alone if no one else wants any.”

No way, I think we both want some. You set up the game, and I’ll pour.” Frank pulls himself off the couch and reaches for the coffee mugs.

I hear Sonic’s a good character, can I be Sonic?”

You have to unlock him first. I think you can unlock most characters just by playing versus though, so eventually.”

I’ll just stick to random, I like trying out all the characters.” Frank says, grabbing a controller and handing out coffee.

I'm going to use the gamecube controller.”

I'll stick to the Wiimote. Works well enough for me.”

I hate wires. I'll take a Wiimote too.”

Dibs on Kirby!”

Kirby, damn cream puff.”

Falcon Smash!”

Shoot, we have it on time play. Remind me to change it to stock after this.”

What's that glowing ball thing floating around do?”

The Smash Ball. You gotta hit it, and then you glow and can do your smash attack by pressing neutral B.”

That's the insta-kill attack?”

It varies for each character, some are pretty close to insta-kill, some you have to be close to your target, some shoot in a straight line.”

No, jump! Higher! Argh! Yoshi's pretty crazy. I keep rolling off!”

That's why I like Kirby. Lots of floating to get back to the board.”

Kirby's a beginner's character, I like Ness, or Lucas.”

Fine, no Kirby. I'll be Pikachu this round.”

There are way too many pokemon in this game.”

Yeah, there are a lot.”

Did I just see Little Mac from Punch Out in that blue thing I opened?”

I think so. Those things help you kill people.”

Wii: “Pika! Pika! Pika!”

Geeze, Pikachu's annoying. Shut up!”

I want to strangle the little yellow bastard. Very anti-hangover.”

Aha! Take that! Killer angels!” Frank, as Pit, gets the smash ball and kills Scott and Sara.

Coffee refill!”

Yes!”

This is fun. We'll have to get Ann, Tabitha and Billy playing when they wake up. We'll have those other characters unlocked in no time.”

I think StarWolf is in the game. I want to play with him.”

They have Mr. Game and Watch again?”

Who the fuck is Mr. Game and Watch?”

Yeah, he's in here. Mr. Game and Watch was the mascot for the Game & Watch series of games, which was basically the precursor to Game Boy.”

I see, so he's an old school type character.”

yeah, he's basically just a 2-D silhouette.”

Okay, Bowser time. You are going down!”

Bowser's a pushover!”

Tabitha emerges from her room. “What's with all the shouting? Don't you have any respect for the hung...ooooh, coffee!”

Grab a controller Tabitha. Let's Brawl!”

Blog Drink-Off, Vote!

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann

Subject: Drinking Story

Brave Astronaut has created a March Madness style Drink-Off with the competition being the best drinking stories. Our post on the topic is posted there, at Take me Drunk, I'm Home, and voting closes on Tuesday, so read our story and vote for it! The story actually takes place pre-blog, it's almost like a flashback episode. So check it out, and hopefully Sara will stop playing Smash Brothers long enough to post the entry she started about playing smash brothers, although I have to admit, it's a fun game.

6th Floor Anniversary

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor Anniversary

Our second anniversary party went off much better than the first. We came up with a couple of exciting drink recipes that were better than a Desert Island, Sara make a chocolate, caramel, peanut butter, banana cake that was delicious. I forgot to take a picture of it, but we got the recipe from the cupcakeblog, which has pictures. There were residual effects of the party that lasted into Sunday, but that's a separate post. Oddly enough, Frank's brother John made his second visit this weekend, again being able to catch our party. My boyfriend Mark was here ,as was Billy's girlfriend Janine. Amy and Sue attended, our former neighbors who have moved out, as did other building tenants Henry, Mike, and Brett. There were a couple of other people, and friends of friends, all in all making our apartment pretty packed.

Mike: “Hey guys! I brought some Coronas, I remember you had a beer shortage last year.”

Thanks Mike, this year should be better. Scott, put this by the rest of the drinks.”

Scott puts the case of beer under the small table we have pushed into the corner with drinks and mixers and an ice bucket, grabs a beer, and retreats to the corner where Brett, John and Frank were standing, drinks in hand. “What are you guys talking about?”

The new Grand Theft Auto game.”

Brett: “It's going to be awesome, I've been looking at all of the screen shots and videos online.”

John: “They have a shot of the rundown world's fair. I know they have a sports team called the swingers, and I think the stadium must be located at Shea.”

The logo is a clear parody of the Yankees logo though.”

Having some of the south Bronx in the game seems right on GTA's style.”

Brett: “That's true. Only about a month or so to go and we'll find out for sure. I can't wait.”

You got an HDTV? That game will look awesome on my screen.” Frank gestures to the LCD tv on the wall.”

Brett: “Very nice. No, I'm looking to get one for the release of the game though.”

Doesn't hurt for sports either.”

Across the room...

So it looks like Janine and Mark are getting along. What are they talking about anyway?”

Economic theory or something. I hope Mark's more interesting otherwise, but that conversation was boring me to death. Janine started in on supply and demand and I just immediately zoned out.”

Economics was not my strong class in college. Should we go interrupt?”

Yes, but let's bring them something to drink. Most people don't discuss complex formulae or have intricate discussions when they're drunk.”

Meanwhile, Sara is having a conversation with a woman named Jessie, and Tabitha, who looks bored.

I always walk down Broadway if I have the opportunity. Since it's slanted it actually makes the trip a little shorter than walking down a different avenue. Of course, this only works if you're going downtown and east or uptown and west.”

Jessie: “That's very intriguing Sara, but don't you get bored of always walking down the same street? I like the excitement of seeing different storefronts and restaurants.”

Well that's true. There is some merit to that train of thought, but it depends where I'm headed and if I'm in a hurry. Especially around here where I've pretty much walked down the avenues as much as Broadway, so that excitement isn't quite there.”

Need another beer Sara?”

Sara peers into her beer bottle. “Yeah, just about.”

I got it. I'm out anyway.”

Tabitha walks over to the beer table, and runs into Frank getting a refill.

Sara's on one of her drunken rants. It was all I could do not to eat my beer bottle to distract myself. Please bring her this beer?”

And get sucked in myself? No thanks. Mike!”

Mike walks over. Mike: “What's up?”

Could you bring this beer over to Sara?”

Mike: “Umm..sure. I guess that's not too taxing.”

Crisis averted. Thanks Frank.”

You are welcome. It comes at a cost though. I can't recall how many beers I was getting.”

It's beer, I'm sure if you get too many someone will drink it.”

Orr...I could abandon them completely and let them fend for themselves. I think I'll go tell Janine scary Billy stories.”

Desert Island anyone?” Ann asks, carrying around a plate.

Are those jello shots?”

Yup! They're good, I've already tried them.”

Ann circles the room, handing out jello shots.

Yum! These are much better than the drinks you made us last year! Good job.”

This is definitely the best jello shot I've tasted in my entire life.”

Janine: “Definitely. These are excellent!”

Mark? Could you get the other tray of jello shots out of the fridge?”

Ann turns around to see Mark already eating jello shots off the tray in the fridge.

Couldn't wait huh?”

Mark: “What can I say? You make terrific jello shots, brings me back to my college days.”

You graduated last year.”

Mark: “I know. That's still back isn't it?”

I'll tell you what's back! Hamburger buns!” Scott slurs, as he jumps over the back of the couch to the kitchen.

Mark: “What?”

I was just thinking about how nice it would be to have a hamburger right about now. Harkens back to the good 'ole days of last summer when we used to barbecue.”

Mark: “Are you mocking me?”

He's not mocking you, he's just Scott. You're lucky Billy's distracted or he'd be making comments too. They feed off each other.” Ann says, gesturing to Billy who's kissing Janine in the corner.

Let's see, do you think I should go to bed now? I figure that leaves me with five hours of sleep, and 90 minutes to fight the hangover and get out of the apartment to go get Super Smash Brothers.”

Or you could simply enjoy yourself, and get up when you get up.”

No, I have to get the game.”

Suit yourself. But I'm going to laugh at you when you're miserable tomorrow.”

May she who is sober cast the first stone.”

She's right Tab, you're horrible with hangovers.”

However, Sara was right. It was getting late and people had started to leave. Mark had to work on Sunday and was returning home, Billy and Janine had retired for the night. As people started to leave Sara turned in early and Frank fell asleep on the couch. Scott was pacing around so me and Tabitha convinced him to pick up empty bottles and cups while he was walking around. We did a preliminary clean up of the area, looking for things that might stain or should be returned to the fridge. By the time we finished, (and finished another beer), the last stragglers had left and we headed for the sheets ourselves, confident that this party was a hell of a lot better than last year's.

I had a lot of time to myself on the plane to San Diego, so I was thinking about the party. More Coconut rum, but this time better planned drinks. No Desert Islands! We'll pick up some other ingredients and make Mai Tai's and Bay Breezes and other tropical themed drinks. I think all the palm trees out here are going to my head. I've also had almost nothing but McDonalds and coffee all day. Maybe I can rip up one of these trees and take it on the plane? We could have our very own palm tree on the 6th Floor! I wonder if that would violate our lease...

So far my plane gets in early Friday, so I should be able to help you shop and cook. We should make chili, that's always fun for parties. I assume Mark's coming right? And Billy is bringing Janine? We'll have to try not to chase them off by having a party as dull as last years, although it is fun when it's just a few of us. I'm bringing back chocolates from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, but not for the party, just for us. I'm going to go get ready for my interview now, probably get some more coffee. I'll see you tomorrow.

Going to San Diego

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Scott.

Subject: San Diego

Sara hangs up her cellphone. “Well, I guess I'm going to San Diego on Wednesday.”

They're flying you out there?”

Yeah. I guess it'll be fun to look around for a day, new experiences and all.”

Would you take the job?”

You can't move to San Diego! You belong in New York.”

So I can't consider sunny southern California? It's supposed to be nice out there.”

Nope. You're not allowed. New York is your home.”

So are you renting a car? Or just going to save as much money as possible and just wander around?”

I don't know. I'm going to look later and see what I can do with name your price through priceline.com. If I can get a crazy low price it probably beats worrying about or paying for transportation to the airport.”

When was the last time you drove? That could be fun.”

Oh shush, I'm a fine driver.”

Better check that the hotel has parking. You are going to be in a city, might cost more to park than to have the car.”

That's a valid point. I just wish it was April, I could catch a Padres game. Maybe I'll walk over and stare forlornly at the park.”

I'm sure there is something better to do in the city than stare at an empty baseball stadium.”

Yeah. I hope so. I'm also going to see three new airports on this trip. I have layovers in both St. Paul Minnesota, and Salt Lake City Utah. I'm going to make sure I'm wearing my Mets Santana 57 shirt when I'm in Minnesota.”

That's a little mean don't you think? I wonder if anyone in Minnesota is a big enough Twins fan to call you out on it. Especially in the airport.”

I'll let you know! I'll only be in the airport for a very little while though, so It might not even get noticed. I doubt anyone in San Diego will care.”

So you're coming back Friday morning right? Plenty of time to help out with our anniversary party on Saturday?”

Yup. I'll call you when I get off the plane and you can put on a pot of coffee for me. I'm going to be exhausted because I don't sleep well on planes.”

Sounds good. Hopefully you don't have a delay in the airport.”

Make sure we have enough drinks this year. Maybe everyone won't bail on the party early.”

Don't worry, I have a whole theme planned.”

Anything you want me to get from San Diego for the party? Or just for fun?”

If you see something that fits the theme, don't hesitate!”

Bring me back an escaped Mexican illegal.”

Sara quirks an eyebrow at Scott.

You're close to Tijuana right? I don't know what else San Diego has.”

I'll find something, don't worry. I should probably go pack now.” Sara wanders off towards her room.

March

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: March

It's that time of month again!”

Oh no! She's going to ask us about March! Run!”

Scott and Frank leap up and start dashing towards the bedrooms, but Ann blocks their way.

Tough. It won't hurt that much, I promise.”

That's what the doctor always says too, before he comes at me with a giant needle!”

At least he puts a Mickey Mouse band-aid on your boo-boo.”

Yeah, that's true.” Frank sits back down and resumes his game with Sara.

Hey, I'm losing 34-22? You didn't pause it?!”

Oh, you wanted it to pause it? My mistake.” Sara grins.

You'll regret that! Prepare for an amazing comeback.”

My birthday's in March, so that's cool. This year's the big Two Seven.”

The big Two Seven? What's so great about 27?”

Well, It's prime for one thing.” Sara calls over from the couch.”

No it's not...nine and three..?”

Oops. Nevermind. So what is so great about 27 then Scott?”

I just wanted to say the big Two Seven. Nothing special.”

I know it's a little cliché going with a food answers, but I like cornbeef and cabbage as well as Irish soda bread.”

Speaking of that, did you see that Guinness is looking to make St. Patrick's Day an official holiday?”

Not a bad idea. I love Guinness.”

They got a petition I guess? I'd sign that.”

915,913 signatures to go apparently. That's a lot in only two weeks. I don't even like Guinness but I think it's a good idea.”

They even have a commercial, where they're interviewing what I guess is a pilgrim, asking him if he's jealous about the idea.”

On that avenue of thought, I'm going to say green beer is my favorite thing about March.”

Green beer? You know it's just food coloring right? I could make you some green beer right now.”

Wouldn't taste the same if it's not the 17th. Your turn Ann, I know how you like to weasel out of your own questions.”

That's easy, my favorite thing about this March is that Wednesday marks one whole year of writing the blog. I'm proud of myself.”

A bit modest are we? I'm going to say Easter. It's neat that it's early this year. I Looove dying Easter Eggs.”

Yeah, that should be fun. Maybe we should all stick around here this year instead of going home to our families. Last but not least, Sara. No baseball reasons, you always find a way to make it about baseball.”

But.. But..”

No! And I might not let you use it in April either!”

Speaking of days that should be holidays, Opening Day should really be a national holiday so we can all watch our national pasttime.”

I'm with you there. Look on the bright side, I'm my own boss and you are unemployed. We can both watch it at leisure!”

I knew there was a benefit to being home all day! If I can't have baseball, I'll go with the 'In like a lion, out like a lamb' cliché. I look forward to the warm weather again.”

See, and no one died. If you guys start thinking about your April answers, maybe you won't find it so grueling.”

And Frank, you suck. Did you just lose to Sara by 27 points?”

Best two out of three?”
