All-Star Aftermath

Welcome to the 6th floor

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Billy and Scott.

Subject: How we fared

Wasn’t going to bother with an aftermath post, (Alright, I’m just lazy), but Brave Astronaut asked in a comment: So the game went on longer than many expected. Anyone up yet there on the sixth floor? Did anyone make it to the end? I fell asleep in the 13th. No drinking was involved, unfortunately. I'm just old.” So since I/we don’t get many commenter requests I figured I’d acquiesce (Never used that word before, it’s a bugger to spell), and rather than a comment reply which chances are he’d never check back to see, I’d just post.

Ann: I’m not that into baseball, and I was going to read while we watched, but Sara made me put down my book and Scott forced beer into my hands and made me pay attention. I cheated a little and didn’t always drink when I was supposed to. (See? I can too cheat when I want to Scott!) When the game (both drinking and All-Star) deteriorated, I stopped drinking and was pretty much fine.

Sara: Sara was doing fine, until Billy Wagner blew the save. Sara points out that had he not let up runs last year, the NL would’ve won that one too. While she continued playing after that, She was also doing plenty of side-drinking too. She stumbled out of here this morning to go to work not looking pleasant, and she had _two_ travel mugs of coffee with her.

Tabitha: Tabitha likes baseball the least of any of us, but that led her to really pay attention to the drinking cues rather than any of the actual game. She switched between beer and weak kamikazis, so she was pretty much okay by morning.

Billy: Billy really took to the game, and since he was off Wednesday he didn’t even have to worry about work. Even though we did stay up for the end of the game, Billy had to ask Sara the score the next morning, because he didn't even remember that we stopped paying attention to the drinking game sometime in extra innings.

Scott: Scott's really developing a crazy tolerance. We joke that no longer can we buy a six pack and split it evenly, he has to get his own. Tonight Scott may have gone overboard, finding excuses to take shots all night long. There is a disturbingly empty looking bottle of gin in the sink (and cracked) and I'm hoping that most of it leaked out through that crack and not into Scott. Scott was all ready to start up a game of asshole after the game ended, and even got as far as bringing out the cards before we groaned at him. After the game ended he decided it was a good idea to make pancakes, which made some of us nauseous and the others hungry. This became funnier in the morning when Tab, not really hungover but very groggy, sat down at the table and ended up sitting in a half cooked left over pancake. Apparently Scott was experimenting with his pancake flipping abilities..drunk and lost one. I wish I'd gotten a picture.

All-Star Game Drinking Fun

Welcome to the 6th floor

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Billy

Subject: All-Star Drinking Game

Help me with these.” Billy asks, as he comes through the door with a ton of boxes.

What have you got there?” Ann asks, getting off the couch to help.

I got some beer for the drinking game for the All-Star Game.”

We're doing that again? Where's the game this year?”

Umm..it's right here in New York. At Yankee Stadium. Where have you been?”

Guess I tune out anything baseball.”

I've devised a Yankee Stadium version of the game. I'm sure it'll be favorable to getting drunk via the Yankee Stadium lovefest I'm sure the game will be.”

We're well stocked if it is.” Billy says, as he loads 6-packs into the fridge. Maybe we should drink for the Home Run Derby too.”

Probably not enough action than that. Don't they usually hit like 40 home runs?”

Usually a little less than that. But we could make it simple, just each pick a player, and take a shot for each home run they hit. We'd have to switch it up to keep us from dying though, so if you're player advances, you win and don't drink anymore, and a loser takes up your player.”

We could try that. If we get too plastered too fast, we'll just stop drinking to the derby, and just drink.”

Seems fair enough to me. I'm going to need plenty of alcohol to get through two nights of baseball.”

As long as we're still on to go to New Roc City to see Dark Prince next weekend.”

Of course, providing we can all get up there.”

Back to baseball though. I figure I'll need to drink for it too, I'm going to be sick of Yankees talk about 5 minutes in.”

Sure Frank will love it though.”

I'll just grill him about the Mets being better if he does.”

The Mets are doing better now? When did that happen? Weren't they playing like crap?”

Actually, they're on fire. They've won nine in a row. Only one win behind the Phillies.”

Well, that's pretty good. I'd think they'd have to at least give them props for that during the game right?”

Maybe they'll mention it when David Wright is up, but otherwise I doubt it.”

Really down on the Fox broadcasters huh?”

It's one of the reasons I try to get out to Shea on Saturdays. It means I don't have to listen to those guys when they do a game.”

That's a good idea. Hey, we should all go to a game together this year. I haven't been out to Shea and I guess I should see it one more time right?”

Sure, it'll be like a 6th Floor does Shea experience.”

And it'll give me something to blog about!”

Well, we know where your priorities are Ann.”

6th Floor Blog goes the the Movies

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor Blog goes to the Movies: Iron Man

Frank and Scott are standing in the lobby of the movie theater waiting for the others who are in the bathroom.

I understand why Billy has to use the bathroom, he drank that entire extra large sized soda, but the girls didn’t drink a drop! They can’t wait until we get home?”

Girls to bathrooms like flies to honey.”

That movie was excellent. Best comic book movie in a while.”

The Mad Money slash Jim Kramer part was pretty funny. That guy is great.”

Sell Sell Sell!”

The house of pain!”

Great movie huh? Slice of pizza on the way home?”

How about a hot dog?”

Whatever powers the Arc Reactor!”

I don't think it's hot dogs.”

I'd go for a hot dog.” Sara says, as the girls return from the bathroom.

It's too early to head home. We should at least get some food, or some drinkee drinkees.”

I'm in the mood for a good Cosmopolitan. That movie was okay, but I still like Spiderman best of all these comic book movies you drag me to.”

You just like Tobey Maguire.”

Tabitha blushes, “Is that not a valid reason to like a movie?”

I liked all his cars. Very cool.”

Yeah, I liked this movie. I think it was because Marvel actually made it, rather than selling the rights to someone else to make it.”

Makes sense. Now, let's get out of here and get some drinking in!”

Amen to that!” Sara says, heading for the door.

Drinking Away Today

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Frank

Subject: Let's grab a Beer...or three

The door slams shut and Ann tosses her bag on the counter and flops onto the couch. “Ugh!”

“Tough day?”

“The worst. They had me bartending this afternoon, and of course there were two completely trashed businessmen. I guess they'd had a rough day too, and they decided tequila shots on their lunch hour would be a good idea.”

“Drunk businessmen. Doesn't really sound that bad.”

“It wasn't at first, but then they started getting demanding and arguing loudly with each other. Luckily it was only an hour, but there were other things too.”

“Want to grab a drink and unwind? We don't have to go to Catalina's for it, I promise.”

“A drink actually sounds great. You going to come too Frank?”

Frank puts his laptop down. “Let's see, come drinking or play Snood all night. Whiskey wins in a landslide!”

“Great. Lets go before I remember how worn out I am.”

Can we have three Guinness' please?”

Sara stares at Frank. “Make that two Guinness' and a Sam Adams Summer.”

“One Guinness, and I'll have vanilla vodka and coke.”

The bartender winks at Frank. “Never presume to know what a woman wants to drink.”

“You would think you'd have learned we don't like Guinness by now.”

“Nothing remedies a tough day like a Guinness.”

“Sounds like I'm not the only one who has had a bad day. Cards not being nice to you?”

“Yeah. That's basically it. It's been a rough time.”

“You could always subsidize your poker with a real job.”

“I'm having a little bad luck, I'm not desperate.”

“What's desperate? Bud Light?” Ann asks, as the bartender brings over the drinks.

“Nah. Desperate is probably water.”

“Yeah. I guess that would be desperate. Cheers! To a better tomorrow!”

“You make it sound like we're on a noble quest or something.”

“Aren't we? I think drinking away today is a noble quest.”

“Yeah. It's certainly not not-noble.”

“Not not-noble? You're confusing me. Too many negatives.”

“Well, it's a very negative day isn't it?”

“True.”

“I'm sure we're not the only people in here having a bad day. It's early enough that I think most of these people are trying to forget the day.”

“That's a good point. Most of the time the celebrating happens a little later.”

“And cheerier. Everyone here looks depressed.”

“Us included.”

“Well, booze is a depressant.”

“And misery loves company.”

“Which means, more beer! Keep them coming!” Frank says, putting his drained glass on the bar.

Drinking During the MLB All-Star Game

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Tabitha, Frank, Billy.

Subject: All-Star Drinking Game

Sara and Scott want to watch the All-Star Game tonight. You guys in for that?”

Sure, I don't have anything else planned.”

Is there going to be drinking?”

You ask that about everything.”

It's always a valid question.”

Not in response to 'Let's go play laser tag.'!”

If you think laser tag is fun sober, you should try it drunk.”

I'd think they'd frown on that.”

You'd be surprised. As long as you don't puke on the guns they're pretty much okay with it.”

Enough about puke. Sara actually devised an All-Star drinking game, so we can actually drink if you like.”

Sounds like she had a productive day at work yesterday.”

She must have. You did hear Frank say she made up a drinking game right?”

I'm sure her bosses loved that.”

Well they should. It looks like a good game, well thought out. We actually have to split into teams, and drink based on what either the National or American league do.”

Sounds decent. Do we have beer?”

Billy goes to the fridge to check. “We have some. We should probably pick up another case.”

We'll leave that to you. When is the game on? Seven like normal?”

Actually, it's on at eight. It's a national broadcast so they want it on in prime time on the east coast. It'll be five in San Francisco.”

Why do we care what time it's on in San Francisco?”

Well, the game itself is being playing in San Francisco.”

Oh. Well Billy's going to get more beer, I actually have a job interview now. I'll be back later.”

Job interview? Decided to actually earn money this summer?”

Yeah. It's an office job. I'd just be answering phones and that kind of thing. If Scott and Billy are going to keep insisting we drink pretty much every night I'm going to need more cash.”

Well good luck!”

Break a leg.”

I think they only say that in show business.”

Oh. Well, at least if you break a leg getting the job you'll have insurance right?”

I doubt breaking a leg at the job interview would leave a good impression actually. I probably wouldn't get the job.”

They frown upon drinking games in hospitals too.”

Good luck!” Frank calls as Tabitha leaves.

I don't really understand this gainful employment stuff you guys are so into. Seems like such a drag.”

By the way, the drinking game Sara devised can be found at MLB All Star Drinking Game. Enjoy!
