Leftovers

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha

Subject: 6th Floor Sins: Gluttony

“Okay, help me find room in the fridge. Billy...Billy? Hey...where'd the guys go?”

“They went to Catalina's for a drink. They claim they need to unwind from the trip to Jersey.” Tabitha says, putting down a huge tray of food and hanging up her coat.

“Figures. Well, help me find room for all this food. Sue really packed us the Billy sized doggie bag.”

“There was enough to feed an army!”

“And we took home enough to feed at least a small platoon.”

“I'm sure it'll go faster than we think. Especially if we don't feel Billy otherwise.”

“We're going to have to toss stuff to make room in this fridge. Think I can take out some of these beers?”

“Probably. We don't really need to have...what is that, 30?! Beers cold at one time.”

“Beer's meant to be drank warmer than that anyway. Nix some of it.”

“Don't think Frank will be annoyed if we remove it?”

“He could've helped, instead he bolted for the bar.”

“Wow, is this a whole tray of Baked Ziti?”

“Probably goes with this entire cheesecake...sans one slice.”

“And I believe that one slice was mine..Did Sue really just pack up all her leftovers and hand them to us?”

“Certainly looks that way. I have a whole plate of deviled eggs here.”

“Those don't last long. Better put them here.” Tabitha gestures towards the counter.

“I agree.” Ann says, popping an egg into her mouth.

“Oh, a large plateful of mashed potatoes. Craziness.”

“Didn't Sue say she was going on vacation tomorrow actually?”

“Right! She's going to St. Louis with her husband. I guess that's why she gave us all the leftovers.”

“Did you notice everyone on the train eying us? I think we made the whole train smell like food.”

“Probably.”

6th Floor Blog Rocks!

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Frank

Subject: Opening Night at the Rock

It's Friday night and Sara Is sitting at the table with a beer and a book of second degree black belt level Sodoku when Ann and Frank come home.

“Hey guys, where were you tonight?”

“We went to the Rock.”

“The Rock?”

“Yup. You know, the Prudential Center.”

“You went to Newark? Eww..”

“Devils opening night! Hockey Hockey Hockey!”

“Ahh..I almost turned the Rays/Sox game on, but then I didn't.”

“Islanders put on a poor show sadly. They really could use a shooter.”

“Devils Win! They even looked a little rusty too. The whole game was a little bit sloppy.”

“I don't know why DiPietro didn't start.”

“Me neither. That arena is very nice though.”

“Oh yeah? I'd heard it was a nice place. Better than the Garden?”

“Hell yeah..The Garden's not exactly top of the line you know.”

“And neither are the Rangers!”

“Hey now!”

“And neither are the Knicks!”

“Better. Did you know the Knicks are actually named for beer?”

“Really? I might have to like them a little more now.”

“Yeah, the Rock was great. It was wide open and pretty spacious. Had some decent food. The only drawback is it's Newark. And the Devils.”

“Beer selections not bad, though they might play off the building being called “The Rock” a bit too much. There was a beer stand that sold only Rolling Rock, and Michelob Amber Bock, and said 'Rock the Bock'.”

“Glad you guys had fun. Maybe I'll come with you if you go again. I haven't been to a hockey game in a while.”

“Sure, we were thinking about going the next time the Islanders go there.”

“And hopefully the Islanders win that time...” Ann mutters.

Sara's New Job

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Frank and Scott.

Subject: Sara's New Job

Sara strolls in around seven o'clock and plops on the couch, gesturing to Frank and then to the fridge.

“So how was your first day of work Sara?”

Frank grabs two beers from the fridge, opens them and hands one to Sara.

“Could've gone better.” Sara says, after a long pull from the beer bottle.

“The people nice?”

“Too early to tell. They seem nice enough. Jersey City is a freaking dump though.”

“Didn't we tell you that Jersey sucked?”

“North Jersey is nice. I don't think I've been to Jersey City though. Not nice huh?”

“Nope. Path train isn't too bad though. The seats are more uncomfortable, but there are much less people on it than the subway.”

“Reverse commute I guess. That's nice at least.”

“They had trouble setting up some of my accounts, so I wasn't even able to do much. A lot of reading.”

“Weren't prepared for you? But you accepted like three weeks ago!”

“I know. Hopefully not a sign of things to come.”

“It'll probably get better when you settle in.”

“Speaking of settling in, they don't have a space for me yet. My desk is literally in the kitchen, with four other people.”

“In the kitchen? That's classic. I always knew a woman's place was in the kitchen..”

“At least you're not far from your precious coffee beans.”

“I wish I was farther! You know how hard it is to take a break to get coffee when the machine's practically on your desk?!”

“Oooh..that sucks. And you don't smoke, so you can't even take a smoke break.”

“Take your coffee breaks by leaving and getting Starbucks.”

“Actually, there is no Starbucks in Journal Square. There is a Dunkin' Donuts, but no Starbucks. It's a horrible place.”

“Who knows, maybe you'll find something better elsewhere. At least you have insurance right?”

“Yeah, I will in two months. And I actually get transportation reimbursement which is cool.”

“That is pretty nifty. Another beer?”

“Definitely. Bring one for Scott too, I saw him eying mine when he walked in.”

“I just love your bottles.”

“That doesn't even make any sense.”

“You might as well have one too Ann.” Frank says, passing out beer.

“Terrific. Tuesday night, Friday night. It's always time for beer right?”

“It's always happy hour somewhere in the world. Cheers!” Scott raises his beer bottle, and the others clink theirs to his.

Mario Kart Eats More Chicken

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Mario Kart Eats More Chicken

We had a little respite from the heat today and we all decided to walk over to Starbucks, where Scott was currently at work. We grabbed the coveted spots around the big coffee table and started chit-chatting. Scott came over while neglecting his customers and his cleaning duties.

“Happy Cow Appreciation Day Scott.”

“Cow Appreciation Day? We supposed to chow down on lots of burgers or something?”

“That wouldn't be very appreciative of the cows would it? It's on my Chick-Fil-A calendar. Their motto is 'Eat Mor Chikin'. If you go there dressed as a cow, you get a free combo meal.”

“Do we even have any of those anywhere near here?”

“I know there is one in the Paramus Park Mall in Jersey.”

“I don't know if it's worth it to drive to Paramus for fast food.”

“Frank Bruni said there was one in one of the NYU food courts.”

“Who the hell is Frank Bruni? Your secret boyfriend?”

“Huh? No Frank Bruni is one of the food critics for the Times. He took some fast food trip a couple of years ago and mentioned the place. I haven't heard anyone else mention the food court, and I don't know if it's open in the summer anyway.”

“Even if they let us in, it's probably manned by college students that don't know we'd get a free combo with a cow suit anyway.”

“True. Maybe one lazy weekend we'll goad Frank into driving to Paramus.”

“Hey, today's Friday the 13th!” says Billy, looking up from a discarded newspaper.”

“No full moon though.”

“We should watch scary movies tonight.”

“I suppose it's fitting, even if it is rather cliché.”

“We never watched a lot of those Horrorfest movies. We should rent one or two.”

“I'd be in for that. I actually found this blog that reviews horror movies for fun. It's a Scream says that Dark Ride was good, but Wicked Little Things was not much of a horror flick.”

“Okay, so we'll skip Wicked Little Things then. We saw Unrest and Abandoned already in theaters. Abandoned was really freaky, but it was certainly scary. Unrest was also a little scary, and made me glad I wasn't a med student for sure.”

“It still bothers me where she was staying. There had to be better housing right?”

“Yeah, but that probably wouldn't have been as frightening. We'll pick up the movies on the way back to the 6th floor.”

“Why are you referring to the apartment as the 6th floor now?”

“Whoops. I must be reading the blog too much. Ann's gotten to me I think.”

“Excellent! Oh, did you guys know it's National Ice Cream Month? And Sunday is National Ice Cream Day? Ronald Reagan's idea.”

“I'm Ronald Reagan, and I approved this sundae.”

“How do you celebrate National Ice Cream Day?”

“How do you think? You're such a dope.”

“Dope.” Billy says, punching Scott playfully.

“Did any of you see that video from E3 about Mario Kart for the Wii?”

“They're making a new Mario Kart? Awesome! Did it look good?”

“Yeah, it did actually. They hyped up the online aspect of it, and they're debuting a new Wii toy, a steering wheel, with it.”

“A steering wheel? That's pretty silly isn't it?”

“Yeah, the remote kind of fits into it. The video kind of made me feel old though. He said the Wii Wheel will offer a new feel for those who 'first started racing with Mario Kart, 15 years ago.' 15 years! Has it really been that long?”

“'92? That IS a long time ago. I still think that one is one of the best Mario Karts of them all. Did they mention battle mode?”

“Yup. There's going to be a battle mode. You'll be able to play that over the Internet too.”

“Sweet. We'll be able to whoop some kid's butt in Alabama or something. I look forward to that. I hope it's good.”

“Aww, be nice to the little brats. The Mario Kart games are actually older than they are.”

“Now THAT makes me feel old.”

“If you guys are done salivating over video games, we should head back and pick up the movies. Besides, Scott's getting an evil eye from George.”

“He's just upset I haven't refilled the milk yet. I'll just tell him we shouldn't serve milk today because it's Cow Appreciation Day.”

“I'm sure that will work wonders.”
