Snow Storm

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Snow Storm

I think the snow is out to get me.” Scott announces as he shows up at Catalina’s to meet everyone for dinner.

Scott drapes his snow-laden jacket over the back of the chair and sits.

Every direction I turned, the snow was coming right at me!”

Yeah. It’s a little rough out there today.”

I’m glad we decided on Catalina’s and not somewhere else. I’m freezing just from walking this short distance from the 6th Floor.”

It’s not as cold as it could be, but it’s hard to see more than 10 feet in front of you.”

I almost feel bad for the tourists. All the street signs are plastered with snow; it’s hard to know where you’re going.”

Getting lost in New York and seeing new and exciting things is a rite of passage.”

Rite of passage? I don’t know if I’d agree with that assessment.”

Well, at least they’ll be able to run home confirming that New York in the winter is a weather disaster and a frigid uninhabitable nightmare.”

That’s blown out of proportion. It’s not like New York is Maine. Sure we get some nasty, ice-cold days, but I think tourists lump us in with Upstate New York and ‘New England Winters’ too much.”

I prefer this to some of those sticky, 100 degree summer days.”

The city smells better in the winter.”

Hard to argue that one. Ignoring the occasional syrup smell anyway.”

The American Dream

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: The American Dream

We're out at Catalina's, as usual, discussing life in general, and drinking whatever we can get our hands on.

So what are we doing for the Fourth? Or even the night before?”

The night before? The Fourth of July isn't really a night before type of holiday. The night before is the third of July.”

Yes, but since it's the middle of the week, a lot of people only have off Wednesday, which makes Tuesday night a holiday.”

You're talking booze. Well, do any of us have to work on the fourth? I don't, but it's only because of luck. The subway is still open.”

I'm off.”

As am I.”

I guess I could take a sick day.”

I'm sure your boss will be all torn up.”

Well he approves of drinking, so it's all good.”

Sounds like we're all good. What did you have in mind Scott?”

I guess we could just come here.”

There's a new idea. Are there any outdoor parties that we know of? Barbecues?”

I know of nothing.”

All the more reason to come here and celebrate.”

Do we do anything but drink?”

Yeah, just the other day. Didn't we play Pictionary?”

Yeah, but we played with drinking rules. We did a shot of Jack every time we won an all play.”

Oh right. I'd forgotten. I don't even remember who won.”

We won!”

Oh yeah! How could I forget?!” Frank and Scott high-five.

I don't know if I'd call it winning. You slept on the floor next to the table for the next 14 hours in a puddle of water.”

Everyone loves a waterbed though.”

Back to the third, I don't think I want to drink here. I am getting real tired of this place.”

Clarence, with a wink in passing: “You sure spend a lot of your free time here for being so sick of it.”

We could always go watch the fireworks.”

Nah. But we're talking about the night before Tab, aren't you listening?”

No. Not really. I've started tuning you out when you talk about beer. We always either end up here, or drinking at home. Same story.”

Fine, you find us someone grilling some burgers and dogs Wednesday, and I'll find us somewhere new and different to drink Tuesday night.”

Fine, now can we at least talk about something a little more interesting?”

Scott, to Billy. “Hey Billy, find us somewhere new to drink Tuesday, k?”

Ha, I should've seen that coming. I've got your back Scott, don't worry.”

Didn't you have a date last night Tabitha? Wasn't it your third date? How is that going? Sleep with him yet? When do we get to meet this guy?”

Date? What date? I don't date!”

Sure, that's why you were running around frantically trying to find those silver hoop earrings?”

You know I always like to know where my stuff is!”

Sure, I know. Except that after you tried them on, you tried on six other pairs of earrings before putting them back on and leaving the apartment.”

Oh fine. Yes, I had a date. It was nice, we went to this wonderful bistro downtown. I'm seeing him again soon, and no I'm not planning on bringing him around yet. Oh, and it's none of your business if I've slept with him!”

That's a yes.”

I didn't say that!”

Definitely a yes.”

None of your business!” Tabitha says, blushing.

Don't worry, if you have a fourth date I'm sure you were good.”

Clarence: “Tabitha had a hot date? Cute guy? You'll have to fill me in later. Another round folks?”

Please!”

Here I Am!

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann

Subject: Ann's e-note

I'm not at home, but I read my roommates' post searching for me, and decided to leave an e-note instead of responding directly. At least this way they won't make fun of me using whole pads of post-its for my note. I feel like Nemo after reading the post; Tabitha as the father clown fish, and Scott as Dory.

First I want to say thank you to the Barmaid and hope she's okay after her last post. We got more traffic from her link to our blog Sunday than we'd had all of the previous three months, and I think we may have even snagged a regular reader or two.

I've had a busy week, and certainly a better one than the Mets. (Sorry Sara) I've got two big surprises, which I don't want to reveal in this note, but if you're all in for late night snacks and drinks at Catalina's Friday night, I'll meet and explain it all to you there. Frank and Sara, you guys aren't headed to one of the subway series games this weekend right? Both surprises will be explained when I show up, although they're not related in any way.

I visited my parents out on the island. I was briefly hanging out with an old boyfriend, who it turns out only actually missed one part of me. I had some of my mother's delicious ravioli, and caught up with my family and read some books I'd been meaning to read for a while. I really enjoyed Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, I'd been meaning to read that since Sara lent it to me after we saw the Da Vinci Code.

I left my job at the library, which is what allowed me the time to visit my parents. The job wasn't bad, and I wasn't worried about being stuck under a pile of Harry Potter books, (excellent visual there Scott, thanks.) but it was time for me to move along.

My writing ambitions have picked up again, and I think a lot of it has to do with making myself write this blog. Having my roommates help out with it has been a great relief too. I was discussing the blog with an old friend, and she mentioned that our lives resemble the tv show Friends in many ways. She suggested I should write a script based on the blog, like a Friends episode. I've never written anything in that format, but I might try it just for the sake of trying something new.

I have been coming and going at odd hours, especially since I haven't wanted to pay the peak LIRR train fare to go out on the island. However, I have indeed seen my roommates this week, even if they haven't seen me. I'll leave the details for discussion over drinks Friday night.
