Leftovers For a Week

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Could there be anymore food?

I hate to say it, but I'm full.”

Ann fakes surprise, “You'd better be, after all that.”

I think he ate for three.”

At least.”

Yet we're still going to have leftovers.”

That's a good thing. Leftovers are the best part of Thanksgiving.”

I'm good with Turkey for one day, I don't think I could handle it as dinner all weekend. That's on you guys.”

Gladly. Just make sure there is some stuffing and potatoes for me to eat with it.”

We'll take care of removing the leftovers this weekend. It'll be a clean start by Monday.”

I think us girls can take care of the pies.” Tabitha says, with a wink to Ann and Sara.

Dibs on the chocolate crème.”

I'm partial to the mincemeat tarts myself.”

You're not going to share any of the dessert?” Billy pouts.

Maybe a little.”

That cheesecake looks scrumptious.”

We can share some, we've got way too many desserts anyway.”

Should we do one of those round robin “What I'm thankful for” things?”

No.”

Lame.”

Pass.”

Fine, but I'm going back to the monthly 'Tell me about December' post for the blog. Think about it.”

Can we reuse last years?”

No.”

Billy groans.”

Maybe I'll think of a slightly different question this year. Hey..where's Frank?”

Everyone looks around and notices Frank has left the table and is asleep on the couch.

We've got our first Tryptophan casualty!”

Who had Frank in the pool?”

That'd be me.”

Everyone hands Scott five dollars.

6th Floor Anniversary

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor Anniversary

Our second anniversary party went off much better than the first. We came up with a couple of exciting drink recipes that were better than a Desert Island, Sara make a chocolate, caramel, peanut butter, banana cake that was delicious. I forgot to take a picture of it, but we got the recipe from the cupcakeblog, which has pictures. There were residual effects of the party that lasted into Sunday, but that's a separate post. Oddly enough, Frank's brother John made his second visit this weekend, again being able to catch our party. My boyfriend Mark was here ,as was Billy's girlfriend Janine. Amy and Sue attended, our former neighbors who have moved out, as did other building tenants Henry, Mike, and Brett. There were a couple of other people, and friends of friends, all in all making our apartment pretty packed.

Mike: “Hey guys! I brought some Coronas, I remember you had a beer shortage last year.”

Thanks Mike, this year should be better. Scott, put this by the rest of the drinks.”

Scott puts the case of beer under the small table we have pushed into the corner with drinks and mixers and an ice bucket, grabs a beer, and retreats to the corner where Brett, John and Frank were standing, drinks in hand. “What are you guys talking about?”

The new Grand Theft Auto game.”

Brett: “It's going to be awesome, I've been looking at all of the screen shots and videos online.”

John: “They have a shot of the rundown world's fair. I know they have a sports team called the swingers, and I think the stadium must be located at Shea.”

The logo is a clear parody of the Yankees logo though.”

Having some of the south Bronx in the game seems right on GTA's style.”

Brett: “That's true. Only about a month or so to go and we'll find out for sure. I can't wait.”

You got an HDTV? That game will look awesome on my screen.” Frank gestures to the LCD tv on the wall.”

Brett: “Very nice. No, I'm looking to get one for the release of the game though.”

Doesn't hurt for sports either.”

Across the room...

So it looks like Janine and Mark are getting along. What are they talking about anyway?”

Economic theory or something. I hope Mark's more interesting otherwise, but that conversation was boring me to death. Janine started in on supply and demand and I just immediately zoned out.”

Economics was not my strong class in college. Should we go interrupt?”

Yes, but let's bring them something to drink. Most people don't discuss complex formulae or have intricate discussions when they're drunk.”

Meanwhile, Sara is having a conversation with a woman named Jessie, and Tabitha, who looks bored.

I always walk down Broadway if I have the opportunity. Since it's slanted it actually makes the trip a little shorter than walking down a different avenue. Of course, this only works if you're going downtown and east or uptown and west.”

Jessie: “That's very intriguing Sara, but don't you get bored of always walking down the same street? I like the excitement of seeing different storefronts and restaurants.”

Well that's true. There is some merit to that train of thought, but it depends where I'm headed and if I'm in a hurry. Especially around here where I've pretty much walked down the avenues as much as Broadway, so that excitement isn't quite there.”

Need another beer Sara?”

Sara peers into her beer bottle. “Yeah, just about.”

I got it. I'm out anyway.”

Tabitha walks over to the beer table, and runs into Frank getting a refill.

Sara's on one of her drunken rants. It was all I could do not to eat my beer bottle to distract myself. Please bring her this beer?”

And get sucked in myself? No thanks. Mike!”

Mike walks over. Mike: “What's up?”

Could you bring this beer over to Sara?”

Mike: “Umm..sure. I guess that's not too taxing.”

Crisis averted. Thanks Frank.”

You are welcome. It comes at a cost though. I can't recall how many beers I was getting.”

It's beer, I'm sure if you get too many someone will drink it.”

Orr...I could abandon them completely and let them fend for themselves. I think I'll go tell Janine scary Billy stories.”

Desert Island anyone?” Ann asks, carrying around a plate.

Are those jello shots?”

Yup! They're good, I've already tried them.”

Ann circles the room, handing out jello shots.

Yum! These are much better than the drinks you made us last year! Good job.”

This is definitely the best jello shot I've tasted in my entire life.”

Janine: “Definitely. These are excellent!”

Mark? Could you get the other tray of jello shots out of the fridge?”

Ann turns around to see Mark already eating jello shots off the tray in the fridge.

Couldn't wait huh?”

Mark: “What can I say? You make terrific jello shots, brings me back to my college days.”

You graduated last year.”

Mark: “I know. That's still back isn't it?”

I'll tell you what's back! Hamburger buns!” Scott slurs, as he jumps over the back of the couch to the kitchen.

Mark: “What?”

I was just thinking about how nice it would be to have a hamburger right about now. Harkens back to the good 'ole days of last summer when we used to barbecue.”

Mark: “Are you mocking me?”

He's not mocking you, he's just Scott. You're lucky Billy's distracted or he'd be making comments too. They feed off each other.” Ann says, gesturing to Billy who's kissing Janine in the corner.

Let's see, do you think I should go to bed now? I figure that leaves me with five hours of sleep, and 90 minutes to fight the hangover and get out of the apartment to go get Super Smash Brothers.”

Or you could simply enjoy yourself, and get up when you get up.”

No, I have to get the game.”

Suit yourself. But I'm going to laugh at you when you're miserable tomorrow.”

May she who is sober cast the first stone.”

She's right Tab, you're horrible with hangovers.”

However, Sara was right. It was getting late and people had started to leave. Mark had to work on Sunday and was returning home, Billy and Janine had retired for the night. As people started to leave Sara turned in early and Frank fell asleep on the couch. Scott was pacing around so me and Tabitha convinced him to pick up empty bottles and cups while he was walking around. We did a preliminary clean up of the area, looking for things that might stain or should be returned to the fridge. By the time we finished, (and finished another beer), the last stragglers had left and we headed for the sheets ourselves, confident that this party was a hell of a lot better than last year's.

Vegas Baby

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Vegas Baby

Ann hangs up the phone, looking over to Billy and Scott with a rather bewildered expression.

My parents aren't doing Thanksgiving. Their friends decided to go to Las Vegas last minute, and they invited my parents.”

Woah, Thanksgiving in Vegas. Interesting.”

I can't believe they're going to Vegas. My mother won't even play instant lotto.”

Well Vegas is special. Besides, with all the Broadway show strikes, the best shot at getting a ticket is going to Vegas.”

Ann laughs, “That's true. My mother said she really wasn't looking forward to cooking anyway. They're going to go to buffets every night and have a grand Thanksgiving without me.”

And get some quality alone time. Who knows, you could have another sibling in 9 months.”

Ann groans. “Scott! I don't need to hear about that.”

You're right. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Does that mean the kid would have to be given away to Nevada?”

Maybe. Forever an orphan growing up in a casino, learning the games, eventually falling in with the wrong crowd.”

Until one day he decides to get even and stages an elaborate con on the casino bosses, taking it for millions of dollars.”

And as the police are tracking him down, he unexpectedly finds his birth mother who helps him avoid the cops and they form a new bond of friendship.”

Brilliant! Alert Spielberg! We've got his next movie!”

Ummm...sure. I'll get right on that. But first I'm going to try and find Tabitha. Since we're all apparently going to be here for Thanksgiving, we should do it right. Turkey, Pie, Cranberry sauce..”

Pumpkin pie!”

A real Thanksgiving meal! This beats Frank's offer to buy everyone turkey cold cuts and a can of pumpkin filling.”

Apple Pie

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Tabitha, Frank, and Scott.

Subject: The Apple Pie

The following is all an IM conversation. I've left out our real screen names. I'm worried about stalkers, Scott just thinks it'd be a good way to meet girls.

Tabitha: Can you take the apple pie out of the freezer? It has to defrost before I bake it tonight.

Ann: We're having apple pie tonight? Nice. Sorry though, I'm not home. I went to the library to try to write. The apartments too distracting. Try Frank, he was having a loud argument with a video game when I left.

Tabitha: Okay, I'll try him. What are you writing?

Ann: A little of this, a little of that. ;-)

Tabitha: Gee, that sounds interesting. Good luck.

Tabitha: Frank? Frank! Are you there?

Frank: Yeah, I'm here. What's up? :-)

Tabitha: Could you please take the apple pie out of the freezer so I can cook it tonight?

Frank: Apple pie? That sounds good. Do we have any ice cream to go with it?

Tabitha: I'm going to pick some up on my way home. But it's pointless if you don't take the pie out of the freezer.

Frank: No can do. I'm not home.

Tabitha: Ann said you were home fighting with one of your video games.

Frank: Ahh yes. I kept getting shot, and it was frustrating. I decided to go to work instead, I'm at Starbucks.

Tabitha: Starbucks? Scott's? That's right around the corner! Can't you just run home? :-P

Frank: Nope, It took me too long to get into this room, and it's going great. Sorry.

Tabitha: Well was anyone else home when you left?

Frank: Just Danny

Tabitha: I don't think your refrigerator magnet is going to be able to defrost a pie. :-P

Frank: Well how would you know, if you haven't asked?

Tabitha: *roll* When is Scott working until?

Frank: I believe he's off at five, which is shortly.

Tabitha: Perfect. Could you tell him to take the pie out? I'm sure he'll say goodbye when he leaves.

Frank: Yeah, sure. Now I'm going to ignore you. You're distracting me from my hands.

Tabitha: Raise Raise Raise!

Later...

Frank: Hey Tab, It looks like Scott left without saying anything. I didn't get to tell him about the pie.

Tabitha: Shoot. It appears he's online, so maybe he'll respond.

Frank: You could always call him.

Tabitha: I could. Of course, I'm in class right now 'taking notes'. It might be a bad idea to make calls too.

Frank: Sounds like a rocking class.

Tabitha: Hey, could you take the apple pie out of the freeze to defrost.

Scott: Pie? Sweeeeet! Where is it?

Tabitha: The freezer.

Scott: Yeah, but where in the freezer? There is a lot of crazy things in there.

Tabitha: It's the pie shaped thing, that says Apple Pie on it. Crazy huh?

Scott: Right, and you want me to put it in your room?

Tabitha: No, just leave it on the counter.

Scott: Can I have a piece?

Tabitha: It's not even cooked yet!

Scott: You need to cook apples? They're a fruit right?

Tabitha: You cook them so the apples become softer and take on the spices and flavors.

Scott: So I can't have a slice then?

Tabitha: No. Patience is a virtue...There is some apple sauce on the bottom shelf of the fridge if you need to sate your apple craving.

Scott: Apple sauce huh? I guess that'll have to do. Don't forget ice cream.

Tabitha: Oh, I won't. :-P

Scott: Get the choco-vanilla swirl stuff.

Tabitha: I know, We've done this before Scotty.

Scott: See you soon then. Hurry.

Tabitha: Relax! And don't eat the pie!

Ann: Hola. Why is there a pie on the kitchen floor?

Tabitha: It's on the floor? *swear* I told Scott to just leave it on the counter.

Ann: Floor, counter...same thing right? I'll ask him. Talk to you later.

Ann: Scott...why did you leave the pie on the kitchen floor?

Scott: I put it on the counter like Tab asked.

Ann: No you didn't, it's on the floor.

Scott: How do you know?

Ann: Because I just saw it there.

Scott: You're home?

Ann: Yes, it appears that way. :-P

Scott walks into Ann's room. “It's not on the floor. It's on the counter.”

I picked it up. It was on the floor, trust me.”

Okay. I took it out of the freezer, then went to get the apple sauce Tabitha mentioned.”

And put the pie down in the process didn't you? Distracted by apple sauce.”

Well, it was good apple sauce!”

Was it? Maybe I'll have a snack before dinner.”

Oh...Umm...sorry. I finished it.”

Why am I not surprised?”
