6th Floor Super Bowl

Welcome to the .

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Super Bowl Sunday

Quick note before I get on with the post. I've connected with a domain, so now the official link of the blog is www.ceetar.com/6thfloorblog. Likely switching to wordpress, but working on getting the starts of an acceptable theme setup, so as of now, that link redirects. But it won't. I've commissioned Sara to start tweaking some stuff, for instance, the width of the site. It was stupid and small prior, and I always felt like things were getting squished. I should've done this a while ago. I also need to fix the header graphic now, as it looks tiny.

Vegas was a blast, but I'm glad I got the red-eye and am here for Super Bowl Sunday! Woo, go Steelers!”

I think I'm going with the underdog story in the Cardinals.”

I'm just hoping it ends. Some cool commercials, like last year, couldn't hurt.”

Good football, good snacks.. That's all I need.”

I've already resolved myself that football is over, and there is no way the game will be as good as last year.”

Baseball season! Baseball! Pitchers and catchers report in like two weeks!”

Rather giddy aren't you? You'd think you'd have learned by now, yet every spring you get your hopes up, and every October you're a miserable wreck of a person for two weeks.”

Bah! This year IS the year. You just wait and see.”

---------Football Game----------

I dunno Scott. That game was pretty exciting.”

Last year was better.”

Two Super Bowls for Ben Roethlisberger now. Are we going to get Eli-Ben comparisons again about how the Giants should’ve taken him?”

No, I think Eli’s fine. I’m sure some idiots will bring that up on WFAN, but Eli won last year, he didn’t have a great post season this year, but I don’t think anyone’s worried.”

So, how lame was the 3D glasses thing?

Hated it. The commercials weren’t bad, the the idea that they actually sent out millions of glasses around the country?”

Would’ve been lamer if Tabitha hadn’t spotted the glasses and picked them up for us.”

That’s true. Kudos Tab. Maybe I’ll even watch Chuck tonight to make the most use of them.”

There were some funny commercials..but in general I think this year failed. Maybe the economy caused the ad agencies to let some of their people go?”

You’d think they’d be smart enough to keep the funny guys though.”

You know what the big-wigs thing is funny, and what’s actually funny are usually completely different things.”

It’s the old adage: Most people end up doing the job that’s one level above what they’re good at.”

That can't be true. It implies that most people are doing things they're not good at.”

Explains the state of our country though.”

Hard to argue that.”

6th Floor Super Bowl Snacks

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Tabitha, Billy and Scott.

Subject: 6th Floor's Snack Post

I want to talk about something to you that's very important to me.” Billy says solemnly, looking at Scott and Tabitha sitting on the couch across from him.

What kind of snacks are we having on Saturday? And what type of food for dinner?”

Scott snickers.

Ann and I are going shopping tomorrow. We'll get a bunch of chips and frozen appetizers and the like.”

Get some of those little, wrapped hot dog things.”

Pigs in a blanket?”

Yes! Those!”

I saw this delicious recipe for Guinness brownies. We should make those!”

Beer brownies?” Tabitha makes a face. “That's on you.”

Well, first we'll need some Guinness.”

That's a given.”

One for the brownies, one to drink while you make the brownies?”

Yeah! I like the way you think Tabitha.”

I'm just hoping for good commercials anyway. Like last year.”

No changing the topic. Should we order food on Sunday?”

You know food always takes a decade to get here on Super Bowl Sunday.”

We could order early.”

Order at the start of the second inning..”

Quarter.”

Whatever. And then it should be ready for half time right? Who's performing this year?”

Springsteen.”

Springsteen? Geeze, they're sure playing it safe these days.”

Springsteen's good though..”

He is..but it's still safe. Just don't think that's the right reason to pick a band.”

Any other snack requests?”

No, I trust your judgment.”

You do?”

No. But I trust you'll shop early and I'll be able to bitch about your choices early enough to get more stuff.”

Tabitha rolls her eyes.

Rest Stops

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Frank

Subject: Rest Stops

I've got to use the bathroom. Can we pull off here?” Sara asks, as they near a rest stop on the thruway.

Sure. I'm getting hungry anyway, we can get some food here.”

Wake up Ann!” Sara says, nudging Ann.

We're there?”

No sleepyhead. Just a rest stop, food and bathroom break.”

Oh..okay. I guess that late night shift I took last night might've been a bad idea.”

Ann and Sara head to the bathroom and Frank heads to the store. They meet in the lobby in a couple of minutes.

Here, one of you carry this one.” Frank says, handing Sara one of three bags.

Yikes! How much stuff did you get?”

Just some snacks for the ride.”

It's not even that far! What's in here?” Sara asks, peaking into the bag as they head to the car.

Beef jerky? Why do we need beef jerky?”

I dunno. Every rest stop seems to have it though, so it must be good.”

You've also got a crappy rest area mug in here. Did you really need to buy this?”

That's for Sara, so she doesn't have to drink her coffee in the room out of Styrofoam.”

Thanks..I think.”

Two big bags of chips, one barbecue. I guess I can get on board with that...but did you really need a map of eastern Pennsylvania?”

You never know where we'll end up, and I don't have a map of Pennsylvania.”

You've got a GPS. All the maps are preloaded.”

Valid point. I probably didn't need the bag of trail mix either. I don't even like trail mix.”

Oh, dibs on the trail mix.”

Hey, there are shot glasses in here too. I guess you intend on doing shots in the hotel?”

I can so get on board with that!”

Just have to find the liquor store when we get up there. Shouldn't be hard, what else is there to do around there right?”

Drink drink and more drink.”

Cow tipping?”

Cow tipping is more of a daytime activity. Then they retire to drink the night away.”

Remind me why we're going to the middle of nowhere again?”

Got anything better to do? Now open up those chips.”

Stalking the Barmaid

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Stalking the Barmaid

Doesn't that Barmaid live somewhere around here?”

I don't know, she doesn't exactly publish her location.”

There are clues though.”

Sure, how many bars could there possibly be in New York? I'm sure if you just go to each one you'll find her in no time.”

Well there are clues to what neighborhood. That narrows it down, and there are a couple of us, we each hit three or four bars a night, and maybe we get lucky.”

I'm not going barhopping by myself to find some random girl from the Internet!”

That's your loss.”

Okay, lets hit a couple and check it out. Are you going to come with Tab? It'll be just like going barhopping anyway.”

No thanks. I'll just stay in tonight.”

No fun! Let's go, you coming Frank?”

Sure, not like I have anything better to do.”

Sara?”

Umm...No. I'm still hungover from those three margaritas you forced on me at lunch.”

Ann? Oh, Ann's not here? Where is she? She's always been fond of stalking. Oh well, lets get going.”

The next morning...

Frank emerges from the bathroom. “Note to self, once you start reaching double-digit beers, it's time to stop.”

Stop drinking or stop counting?”

Frank burps. “Probably both.”

I think I have heartburn. I vaguely remember ordering food at every place we went.”

Every place? How many places did you go to?”

Well..I uhh..I don't know.”

Well, that's a good sign. When you can't remember where you've been, you've usually been nowhere good. Did you actually find her or can you not remember that either?”

I think we'd remember if we found her. Wouldn't we? I'm not sure.”

I remember nachos, a corn dog, and potato skins. That's at least three bars.”

Mozzarella sticks. I definitely remember those.”

So four. Which blocks did we decide to walk down?”

Well, we definitely went downtown. I distinctly remember turning left at the corner.”

Yes, we definitely turned left, but we went to the other corner and turned left to go uptown!”

No! We saw the moon as we were walking, so that must've been south.”

What? How does that make any sense? Do you have any idea if the moon was in that part of the sky last night?”

I'm sure. It was just hanging up there in the sky, I remember thinking it was bright and full.”

Are you sure we didn't just go to a bar with 'Moon' in its name?”

I don't think there are any bars like that near here.”

Frank said he had a lot of beers, maybe one of them was a Blue Moon?”

Yes! That does sound familiar!”

So does that mean Frank was right and we went uptown?”

Oh, I don't know. I barely remember anything.”

You guys don't even know if she was working last night do you?”

Well, if she updates her blog about last night we'll know.”

You'll know she was working, but that won't help you remember if you were there or not.”

I think this was a pretty hopeless quest. You guys don't want to do this again tonight right? I don't think I could handle that.”

A little hair of the dog will do you good.”

I'm out too, I can't do that every night. If we're meant to find her, we'll find her by accident. We shouldn't be stalking her anyway, that's not nice.”

She's a Yankee fan anyway, why would you want to find her?”

Frank sticks his tongue out at Sara. “I need more Yankee fans in my life after living with you and your Mets for these 15 months.”

We just need another television in the living room so we can have both games on, rather than doing that picture in picture stuff and fighting over what game gets the focus.”

You know, that's an excellent idea!”

What's Up This Week?

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Ann, Sara, Tabitha, Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Our Plans For The Upcoming Week

It's Sunday night and we're all standing around in the kitchen. When we stand around and chat, we often do it in the kitchen; I think the presence of snacks and a counter to lean on keep the conversation flowing. We all recently arrived home after being out, some of us visiting our mothers, the others just running errands. A belated Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's out there. As the early birds start to think about getting to bed, conversation naturally drifts to the upcoming week, and any interesting plans we may have.

I've got some finals this week, but I was thinking it'd be nice to go out to dinner Friday. How does the Corner Bistro sound?”

Well me and Sara will be at Shea Stadium for the subway series game on Friday otherwise I'd go. Maybe if you're all still out when we get back.”

I'm always in for the Bistro. Plus they have McSorley's on tap, that's always a plus.”

Amen to that!”

Well I'll have to check my schedule, but that sounds good to me too. Maybe we can L it over to Union Square and have dessert at Max Brenner's afterwards?”

Sure, nothing washes out the bad taste of finals like yummy chocolatey goodness.”

That's the place with all the weird glasses and mugs right?”

That's the one. We might want to goto the 2nd avenue one though, it's usually less crowded.”

So anyone doing anything exciting during the actual week?”

I've actually got a date Thursday night. I don't know if it'll be exciting or not though.”

Oooo...Sara's got a date! With who? Where are you going? You bringing him back here?”

Just some guy from work. Maybe I'll bring him back here if it's going badly, meeting you is always a good way to scare off dates.”

Ouch, that hurts me!” Scott says, grabbing at his heart in jest.

Going anywhere good?”

We're just going to dinner. I told him he could pick the place. I'll let you know where we end up.”

A friend of mine is coming to the city for the day on Wednesday. I told her I'd show her around, and she mentioned she'd like to goto a museum or something. She's only going to be here for something like 8 hours though, so I'll have to figure out something fun for us to do. We'll probably get dinner somewhere near Penn Station before she gets on a train if any of you wanted to join us.”

Hmm, she hot?”

She's pretty good looking yes, but she has a boyfriend. You're still welcome to join us though.”

Naah.”

It's nothing real exciting, but I'm going to be working the M train this week. I don't usually work that route, it'll be a nice change of pace.”

I'm not sure I've ever been on the M train actually.”

You know I always welcome visitors on my trains.”

You mean besides the millions of New Yorkers who visit every day? Yeah I know. I've got too much studying to do for excursions to Queens though. So much studying in fact, that I need to goto bed and get an early start on that. Goodnight everyone.”

Goodnight! Don't let the bed bugs bite!”

Eww! Didn't we tell you to stop saying that? We've all heard too many bed bug horror stories!”

Guy's Night In

Welcome to the 6th floor.

Today's contributors are: Frank, Billy and Scott.

Subject: Guy’s Night In

I was playing Dr. Mario with Ann when Tabitha came and got her, and then they left. They said they were meeting Sara somewhere. I noted to Scott and Frank that the apartment was girl-free at the moment, so we decided to do some guy things while we had the chance.

Why do we still drink crap like this? Who bought it?” asked Frank as he handed out some of the Coors Light in the fridge.

Tabitha I think. We don’t have anything better?”

There were some Bacardi Silver’s. I think that would be a blow to our manly guy night though.”

Put something better in then. Dr. Mario is seriously not a man’s game.”

MLB: The Show? Or we could just watch SportsCenter.”

Skip SportsCenter. Look, there’s a poker game on.”

That’d be like watching you work. How lame is that? Watching poker is totally not manly. Playing poker might be, but I’m not playing poker with you anyway.”

So video games it is then. So where do you think the girls went anyway?”

I heard them say something about Sara.”

Must be. She’s usually asleep by this time. I wonder were she went.”

Maybe she snapped under the pressure and killed someone.”

Maybe they’re bailing her out of jail then!”

I don’t think you get out that easily if you kill someone. She’s probably just at a co-workers apartment. I don’t know why Tabitha and Ann had to go find her though.”

Action movies! Billy, pop in one of those shoot-em-up films and I'll get us some snacks. We do still have snacks right?”

I think we do. You live here too, just check. Or did you forget how to use the cabinet?”

I just leave everything I need on the counter so I don't have to use the cabinets.”

Doesn't Tabitha yell at you about that all the time?”

He has a cabinet full of half-eaten stuff, because Tabitha gets annoyed and puts them away, and then if he asks she won't tell him where she put it.”

Oh yeah, that's where those moths came from that time. The half-used tin of hot chocolate that Scott had forgotten about all year.”

I'm just an opportunistic eater. If it's not right in front of me, I usually don't want it that much.”

First cabinet to the left of the sink, there are some pretzels and potato chips in there. Lets start watching.”

There are some bowls in the cabinet next to the fridge.”

Bowls? Who needs bowls? Just for that comment, you're writing the next blog entry to get Ann to stop bugging us for a while.”
